WPT Power Corporation has received a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This is the second year in a row the Wichita Falls, Texas plant has earned the SHARP recognition, which identifies small business employers who demonstrate exemplary safety and health management practices.
“SHARP is a recognized achievement within our company as well as within our industry,” says Roger Gardea, Human Resources Manager. “Our team knows that we as a company have their safety as a top core value. The willingness to implement safety polices by every team member is what makes this a success.”
“This award is evidence to WPT’s commitment to the whole safety process including the ongoing training and procedures to ensure the safety of all employees, customers, and suppliers. Proactive safety practices are key to reducing and preventing workplace injuries,” said Lane Brock, President. Since being in the SHARP program for two years, Brock stated that WPT Power has improved and maintains better overall safety and health management practices to reduce injuries and work site hazards.
OSHA’s SHARP award is given to small businesses with less than 500 employees that show exemplary workplace safety and health practices. To qualify, the employer must request an on-site consultation, involve employees in workplace safety and health, correct any hazards identified during the consultation process, and maintain an injury and illness rate lower than its industry average. Since 1990, SHARP has advanced workplace health and safety by conducting numerous research, monitoring and demonstration projects.
