In a large majority of the engine driven clutch applications that WPT supplies, most tend to be a ratio of 1:1. In these applications, the driven piece of equipment turns at the same rate of speed as the engine flywheel. But occasionally, a driven piece of equipment may have a torque and/or speed requirement that causes the output shaft to be sped up or slowed down to accommodate the application. In times such as these, a belt and pulley system or a speed increasing or speed reducing gearbox may be employed.
When a gearbox is needed, an integrated clutch pack is incorporated into the drivetrain, typically mounted on the input shaft of the gearbox and housed in a bellhousing. These clutch packs can range from the simplest mechanical style of actuation, to hydraulically and pneumatically actuated clutch packs that can be energized by an “Over the Shaft” thrust bearing, or a “Through Shaft” style of engagement.
