Electric Rock Crushers Gaining Momentum
In the world of aggregates, rock crushers are a familiar and all-important presence on job sites, quarries, and processing plants. Traditionally, these heavy-duty machines have relied on a combination of diesel engines, mechanical clutches, and belt drive systems to crush and process raw stone into usable materials. This setup has been the industry standard for decades, preferred for its rugged simplicity and reliability in remote or off-grid locations.
However, in recent years, there has been a noticeable shift toward electrically powered rock crushers. Driven by advances in technology and the push for more energy-efficient and low-maintenance equipment, mobile electric crushers are gaining traction across the industry. Their quieter operation, reduced emissions, and potential for lower operating costs make them an increasingly attractive option for modern aggregate producers seeking to enhance sustainability and streamline their operations.

Next Generation Rubber Block Drives
In 2024, WPT Power was approached by an OEM looking for drive options for an electric crusher concept. The idea was simple, replace the diesel engine with an electric motor as the primary source of motion. The main hurdle to overcome, however, was that the motor had no provisions for a belt drive or a means to support one. WPT was brought in to find a solution.
Using the Type 1 314 (Gen II) platform as the base, we created a Rubber Block PTO (RBP) that interfaces directly with the Danfoss EM-PMI540-T2000 electric motor. This setup provides a direct connection between the crusher and motor while fully offloading belt loads to the RBP.
A key feature of the design was the use of readily available components. The Type 1 314 (Gen II) is a popular product in the cotton irrigation industry. So, because of its continuously stocked availability, it helps keep the solution cost-effective. For the input coupling, we partnered with Reich USA to provide a robust and reliable input connection for the motor.
The result is a product that will help usher in the next generation of aggregate crushing equipment. WPT Power is always striving to push the limits of the mechanical power transmission world. So, this is just the next step in our evolution.
