Road Rubble to Asphalt Assets
Supporting a sustainable future in construction, recycling is a practical way to reduce waste and lower material costs. Mobile crushers help contractors and producers meet sustainable goals by turning demolition debris into valuable aggregate for new construction. This equipment is available in tracked and wheeled configurations, allowing quick positioning and movement around the site.
Construction Site Assets
This customer’s operation is made up of 10 mobile plants spread across multiple states. Each mobile plant’s setup includes a skid steer to move large RAP (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) to the feedstock pile. An excavator then loads the material into the crusher, which feeds the crushed material into a 6 x 20 mobile screen. The processed material is subsequently sorted by size and separated into different stockpiles via a conveyor belt, resulting in ready-to-use, spec’d-sized aggregate.
The Crusher’s Drive Assembly
A WPT customer was looking to improve his existing Lippmann 4800 mobile crusher fleet used for asphalt or road recycling. Supporting a sustainable future also applies to your equipment in terms of extending its lifecycles. There were environmental and efficiency considerations for contractor-grade tracked impact crushers from upper-tier manufacturers, such as Lippmann. Refurbishment costs typically range from 20% to 50% of the price of a new unit, depending on the scope of work and the machine’s overall condition. Usually, contractors often plan to undertake 1 to 2 major rebuild cycles over the service life of a crusher before full replacement becomes the more economical and operationally sound option.

Since their mobile crushers will operate at 1800 – 2000 rpm for 7-10 hours a day for 2- 3 weeks at a time before relocating, our customer was looking to make improvements by retrofitting his existing equipment to increase longevity and efficiency. This included a modification to the drive system. With the support of our experienced WPT engineering team, we recommended our Type 1 with heavy-duty tooth-friction discs to replace the existing PTO. Our Type 1 is one of the most rugged and highest-capacity products available on the market today.
Once operational, our customers’ feedback indicated that our PTO was more readily available, more serviceable, and had a more robust housing than our competitors’. With the help of our established distribution, we were able to support our customers in transitioning multiple mobile crushers to this upgrade drive assembly.
