Power Take-Offs Living in High Cotton

Cotton Irrigation

Texas is the leading cotton producer in the United States. It typically produces about one-third of the nation’s total cotton crop, with the majority being Upland along with other varieties, namely Pima and Acala cotton. Texas’ warm temperatures, abundant sunshine, and fertile soil make it ideal for cotton cultivation. It is here that WPT Power’s corporate office is located in the “Rolling Plains” region in Texas, which we call home.

PTOs in Our Backyard?

Yes, especially in remote areas where electricity is not available. Many of these locations have put to use diesel or natural gas engines mated with WPT Power Take-Offs (PTOs). Our region receives approximately 21 inches of precipitation yearly. About 85% of the area is considered dryland acreage since there isn’t a lot of rain. That is why furrow irrigation and center pivot irrigation are used to supplement the rainfall in North & West Texas. Engine packages connected to water sources, such as a well, ditch/canal, or aquifers, pump the water where and when it’s required. Texas is known for producing high-quality cotton, and it needs favorable growing conditions powered by reliable irrigation systems.

The PTO-driven water pumps help supply these sun-baked crops with water in a controlled fashion. WPT Power’s GM Style, Automotive, and Pilotless® PTOs transfer the engine’s power, providing uninterrupted water flow, offering efficiency and reliability to your farming practices and irrigation methods.

PTOs and Cotton Globally

The practices mentioned above are the same strategies addressing water-related challenges worldwide. Globally, the goal is to maintain or increase yields and profitability for the growers. Another leading cotton production region area is in Australia. Approximately 66% of its cotton is grown in New South Wales and an additional 33% in Queensland. The Pilotless® CDS PTO is an innovation for these Australian irrigation markets to access groundwater, river, and canal water. More importantly, it is a durable performer when in need of continuous duty. Australia is an excellent example of enhancing irrigation water-use efficiency in cotton cultivation.

Cotton has a deep historical significance in Texas and WPT Power. It also plays a historically relevant role in Australia’s economy, culture, and identity. Cotton is one of Australia’s leading agricultural industries, and it has a narrative to be proud of. That is why you will find us at the Australian Cotton Conference. This year’s conference will be held on the Gold Coast, with the theme “Cultivating Excellence.” This topic echoes WPT’s way of thinking, and it is an honor to be a part of it.

To Put it Briefly

The WPT PTO’s performance and longevity make it a reliable workhorse for your farming efforts. With a properly equipped irrigation system, you can expand the cotton growing season and cultivate more crops throughout the year, whether you’re in Queensland or Texas. WPT Power is a dependable name in manufacturing power take-offs for industrial engine packages.
